Here are some tips to help reduce dental fear and anxiety:
Talk to us - We have made every effort to anticipate any potential fears or anxieties, but you may have some that we are not aware of. We will take extra precautions during visits if fears and anxiety are communicated.
Bring a portable music player - Music can be relaxing and drown out noise. Listening to your choice of music throughout the appointment will help to reduce your anxiety.
Agree on a signal – If you fear that the dentist will not understand your speech and thus stop when you might need him to - then you might talk with him about a "stop" signal you both understand.
Spray your throat – If your sensitive gag reflex is a problem, then throat sprays (for example, Vicks® Chloraseptic® Throat Spray) can actually control the gag reflex. Two or three sprays will usually keep the reflex under control for about an hour.
Sedation – Oral conscious sedation offers an excellent option for many people. There are several types of sedation, and we will work with you to determine which is the right option for you and your situation.
